According to a press release from the Finnish Olympic Committee, the Olympic collection has been inspired by Arctic winter, permafrost and light variation.

Otherwise than the 2018 race uniforms, the Beijing collection is quite low-key. The costumes for the Pyeongchang Games were created in collaboration with Aalto University, and showed “hints of the dried surface of the kelohonga and the northern lights”.

The colors four years ago were much different from traditional blue and white. In addition to blue and white, the main colors of Beijing outfits are gray.

Layering is the key word in Beijing’s changing weather conditions.

Luhdan Finland Sales Manager Pasi Luumi says that the design of the collection has taken into account the weather conditions in Beijing and the requirements of different sports.

“The demanding weather conditions in Beijing created their own challenges in creating the collection. In the monsoon climate there, the February winter weather can vary between frost, shelter and snow or rain, ”Luumi says in a press release.

“We have designed the collection in collaboration with ski and ice sports athletes and maintenance representatives. The collection is based on layered clothing and weatherproof products. ”

To the collection also includes a bag made jointly by Spinnova and Icepeak, which has a 65% lower carbon footprint and 99% lower water consumption than cotton. The textile fiber is made from renewable raw materials and does not release microplastics into the environment.

The Beijing Winter Olympics will be held from 4 to 20 June. February 2022.
