Passing through the 68th edition of the Brazilian University Games (JUBS), this Saturday (16) in Brasília, the president of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), Paulo Wanderley, stated that the goal of Brazilian athletes in the 2024 Olympics (Paris) is outperform the Tokyo Games. In the Japanese capital, the country achieved 21 medals (7 golds, 6 silvers and eight bronzes).
“The result was great, but we want to do better. We always have to move forward. Retreat not even to give impetus”, joked the director, noting that employees of the entity have already made two visits to France to check training locations, possible cities for acclimatization and assembly of the main base.
“It’s a preparation that involves a lot of advance, but nothing was more challenging than facing the pandemic. We had to redo everything,” he said.
About the JUBs, Paulo recalled that he participated in the competition as a judoka and that, in 1974, when he was president of the Espírito Santo university sports federation, he organized the silver jubilee (25th edition) of the games in Vitória.
“I feel at home, but the JUBs are a consistent competition with decades of achievement, and important in the implementation and dissemination of the sport, consolidated as a reference”, he concluded.
