Riikka Smolander-Slotte jumps into Laura Arffman’s big boots.
Laura Arffman has been one of Yle’s most well-known and knowledgeable screen faces for years.
At the Beijing Olympics, he was supposed to be doing interviews on cross-country skiing broadcasts, but the race trip was missed due to a corona infection.
Arffman said on social media earlier this week he had a positive corona result, which meant the cancellation of his race trip.
According to Ilta-Sanomat, Arffman will jump into his big boots Riikka Smolander-Slotte, who traveled to Beijing on Wednesday.
“That’s right. Riikka is an experienced and professional journalist who has performed the duties of an interviewer and presenter in numerous competitions. I am confident that he will perform his duties with a quality familiar from the Beijing Ski Area, ”Yle Sports Manager Joose Palonen confirm.
Smolander-Slotte is a long – standing sports journalist who has reported to numerous competitions for Yle. At the Summer Olympics, his specialty has been sailing. He recently explained to Yle the European Figure Skating Championships in Tallinn.
Arffman said on Instagram that he made careful preparations to avoid getting infected. Her husband, an ex-skier Anssi Pentsinen, had worked remotely and the couple ‘s older child had been away from kindergarten so that her mother’ s trip would not be missed. Nor did it help to avoid infection.
“No friends have been met. They wanted to make sure there was no corona. It came. The work is work, but professionally this is still a big disappointment, ”Arffman wrote earlier this week.
