Tomi Rantamäki coached by a Chinese curling couple Fan Suyuan and Ling Zhi opened the Beijing Olympics with a tight 7-6 victory over Switzerland. China settled in the final stage of their opening match in the first round of the doubles with a final stone.
The doubles competition is in the Olympic program for the second time. Rantamäki played four years ago at the Pyeongchang Olympics Oona Kausteen roll. In the summer of 2019, he was called to coach the Chinese Olympic team.
In Beijing, Finland is not involved in doubles or curling at all, as the Olympic venues escaped from Oona Kauste and From Aki Kauste in the doubles as well as from the men’s team.
Ten teams will play in the doubles competition that opened the Olympic sports events. The dominant Olympic winner is Canada, where John Morris participates in his other Olympics in the doubles competition.
In other curling fights on opening day, the UK won 9–5 in Sweden, 6–5 in Australia and 7–6 in Norway.
