elDiario.es journalist Olga Rodríguez, specialized in international information, the Middle East and Human Rights, has been awarded in the 19th edition of the Joan Gomis Memorial for Solidarity Journalism, for her “outstanding” career. “There is no good or bad journalism, there is only journalism.” This was stated by Jordi Cuadras, president of the Fons Català de Cooperació, one of the entities that are part of the jury, during the award ceremony, which took place this Wednesday at the Col·legi de Periodistes de Catalunya.
“From a very young age I have covered armed conflicts. War is that place where mothers bury their children, where peace is lost forever and memory becomes the only salvation.” With these words, Olga Rodríguez has left her mark by receiving the award, reflecting the depth of her career.
In the category of journalistic works, the report has also been recognized Orphans after the silenceby the journalist Anna Grimau and the visual artist Sara Boldú, from the program Reply from RTVE. The report explores the impact of gender violence, focusing on the more than 400 children in Spain who have been orphaned in the last decade due to this scourge, asking: How do you survive this? How does the Administration care for and protect these minors? What happens after the minute of silence?
“What makes the report important is that we do not limit ourselves to the pain of orphaned boys and girls; We want to go beyond the minute of silence,” Grimau and Boldú highlighted with the award already in hand.
The Prize, which was created to keep alive the memory of the journalist and novelist Joan Gomis (Barcelona, 1927-2001), recognizes the works and journalistic careers that value the fight against inequalities, poverty and social exclusion, and that They promote justice, peace and human rights.

Olga Rodríguez’s career is defined by a deep dedication to journalism and human rights. With a career that includes his work on Cadena SER, Cuatro and CNN+, and collaborations in media such as El País, Público, Periodismo Humano and Radio Nacional de España.
She is also co-founder of elDiario.es, where she currently works. The journalist has narrated the reality of countries such as Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Mexico, Syria, the occupied Palestinian territories and Yemen. His voice has been a front-line witness to some of the most complex conflicts in the contemporary world.
In 2003, her work as a correspondent in Baghdad during the invasion of Iraq led her to witness the evolution of the conflict and the murder of cameramen José Couso and Taras Protsyuk in the Palestine hotel due to a North American projectile.
The journalist did not want to forget about Palestine in her speech and recalled that, 13 months after the Gaza war, the authorities still prevent international journalists from entering the conflict zone. He has highlighted the importance of journalism, stating that what distinguishes it from “child’s play is its ability to unravel the reasons for the facts.” To conclude, he expressed his desire: “Instead of a war correspondent, I would like to be a peace correspondent.”
The jury has recognized his series of weekly analyzes published in elDiario.es on the conflict between Israel and Palestine for its “depth and rigor.” Rodríguez is also the author of books such as The wet man is not afraid of the rain. The Memorial jury is made up of representatives of the same convening entities: Justícia i Pau, Cristianisme i Justícia, FundiPau, Faculty of Communication and International Relations Blanquerna-Universitat Ramon Llull, Fundació Cultura de Pau, Mans Unides, LaFede.cat, la Lliga International Feminist Journalism, Women for Peace and Freedom, the Catalan Development Cooperation Fund, magazines The Deer and Foc Noua representative of the Gomis family and the journalists Carmina Balaguer Montón, Quim Manresa and Queralt del Castillo.
The prizes in the categories of journalistic works and career are valued at €1,500. The magazines The Deer and Foc Nou They will publish an article written by the winners, as well as an interview and will receive an original illustration by Joan Gomis.
The event culminated with a dialogue titled Veus against the silence (Voices against silence), among the three awarded and moderated by the journalist Josep Peralta, in which the social importance of journalism has been highlighted.
