If they are followers of the company’s work Capcom, maybe you know the title of Okami. A game where we control the goddess of the sun, Amaterasu, who reincarnated in the form of a white wolf to fight the demon Orochi and embarks on a beautiful adventure in the ancient Japan.
Despite getting rave reviews for its unique visual style, fairly long run time, and gameplay similar to The legend of zelda, Okami suffered financially. The good news is that over time it has become a kind of cult game, so more people have had the opportunity to enjoy it. Of course this could also open the door to a continuation.
Could Okami have a sequel?
Recently, the director of Okami, Hideki kamiya appeared in a video in Youtube, where he talks about the process of creating this beloved title. What began as a photorealistic video game focused on nature, turned into an epic tale to celebrate Japanese mythology, its landscapes and its traditional painting.
Okami should be the star game of Clover studio, an internal study of Capcom, to prove that they had the capabilities to create great titles. Despite being considered one of the best video games of 2006, the adventure of Amaterasu did not sell enough. This made the plans Kamiya for a sequel they will collapse.
Yet there is a ray of light. With the arrival of Okami HD some years ago, Kamiya began to receive more and more requests to create a sequel, especially for the plot points that were left unfinished. This has made the developer want to create a new installment and implement mechanics that he could not due to the limitations of the technology of that time.
Obviously nothing is official yet and there should still be some conversations between Kamiya and Capcom to see if this can be a reality. Fortunately, we already have the statements of its creator who would be delighted to continue the story of Okami. With the power of the next generation consoles, can you imagine what beauty it would be able to deliver to us? Hopefully it becomes a reality.
