LONDON (Reuters) – Three UK oil companies, including ExxonMobil, have won injunctions to thwart protests by climate activists that have caused turmoil this month, the UK government said on Friday.
Environmental groups such as Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil have been holding daily protests in London and across the country, mainly focused on oil facilities.
The companies Navigator Thames, ExxonMobil and Valero have obtained injunctions to allow them to minimize disruptions and avoid further problems, the UK business department said.
“While we value the right to peaceful protests, it is crucial that they do not disrupt people’s daily lives,” said Energy Minister Greg Hands.
“That’s why I’m pleased to see oil companies taking steps to secure injunctions at their sites, working with law enforcement to arrest those who break the law, and ensuring that fuel deliveries continue as normal.”
