There really doesn’t seem to be peace in this start to the season for Aston Martin. The British team, which struggled enormously during the debut race in Bahrain highlighting a car – the AMR22 – far from competitive, also had to give up its top driver in the Sakhir race. The four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, in fact, tested positive at Covid and had to give up competing in the opening round of the championship. Unfortunately at the moment, according to what was officially communicated by the Silverstone team, his positivity to the virus remains. Almost certainly therefore, as happened last weekend, the second Aston Martin will be brought to the track by Vettel’s compatriot, Nico Hulkenberg.
That ‘almost’ however, at least on a formal level, is still necessary. The official statement released by Lawrence Stroll’s team does not yet certify with certainty the presence of the former Renault driver on the track in Jeddah. In fact, the team wants to give Vettel all possible opportunities to take to the track in Saudi Arabia. So the final decision will come tomorrow, in the hope that Vettel can ‘negativize’ in these hours. “Sebastian Vettel has not yet returned the negative result required for the Covid test to fly to the Saudi Arabian GP – reads the note released via Twitter by the team – Nico Hulkenberg will be in Jeddah to replace Seb if necessary. We will make the final decision on Friday, to provide Seb with all the opportunities to compete ”.
UPDATE: Sebastian Vettel has not yet returned the required negative COVID test to fly to the #SaudiArabiaGP. Nico Hülkenberg will be in Jeddah to deputise for Seb if necessary. We will delay our final decision until Friday to provide Seb every opportunity to race.
