As we had anticipated in recent days, the organizers of the Spanish Grand Prix and Liberty Media have reached an agreement to extend the contract that for years has seen the Barcelona track host F1 not only as the venue for winter tests. After the green light from the Catalan government to reach the final close of the negotiations, it was indeed official presence of the Spanish Grand Prix in the F1 calendar until 2026, an important renewal given that starting from 2023 there are many countries that dream of entering F1 (Qatar will enter the calendar with a ten-year basis from 2023), inputs to which some of the current offices will have to make room given that Liberty Media seems to have surrendered to the fact that 23 races are quite the tolerable limit for the protagonists of the world championship circus. Nothing to do therefore for Jerez, which had embraced the hypothesis of hosting F1, which instead will continue to make a stop at Montmelò allowing Spanish fans and fans to Carlos Sainz and of Fernando Alonso the opportunity to support their favorites at home in Barcelona, starting May 22, 2022.
And the MotoGP will also follow the same path, having also renewed it for another five seasons but with a different agreement: after the race on May 5, 2022, from 2023 to 2026 the World Championship will alternate the Catalan track with other races scheduled in the Iberian peninsula. guaranteeing at least two to Montmelò in the following four years.
