The era of Fernando Ortiz at the helm of Monterrey has officially come to an end. Through their social networks, Rayados announced the departure of the Argentine coach. In their publication, the team from the Sultana del Norte thanked ‘Tano’ and his coaching staff for their “commitment, professionalism and different contributions”, highlighting his work in the youth teams and his work methodology.
In the statement, Rayados de Monterrey wished Fernando Ortiz success in his future projects. The white and blue club also announced that Nicolás Sánchez and Hugo Castillo will be in charge of the team on an interim basis while they announce who will be the new coach of the Monterrey team.
The Monterrey board decided to dispense with the services of Fernando Ortiz after the uncertain start in the Apertura 2024 tournament of the Liga MX and the poor performance in the Leagues Cup 2024, a competition in which Rayados was surprisingly eliminated in the group stage.
During his time at the helm of Monterrey, ‘Tano’ Ortiz achieved a 63% effectiveness, after winning 35 games, drawing 11 and losing 15. However, despite the good numbers, the club’s fans were upset with this process because Rayados did not reach the finals.
In the last few hours, it has been rumoured that Jorge Sampaoli is the favourite to take over at Monterrey. The Argentine coach is currently a free agent and would be the board’s main candidate.
