At the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS drives under the spotlight. And Weissach left nothing to chance to make the already very fast sports car even faster. And more expensive, because the Belgian price tag is 153,065 euros (including VAT).
In the center at the rear is a naturally aspirated boxer engine that combines a displacement of 4 liters with a peak power of no less than 500 hp (80 horses more than the GT4), a maximum torque of 450 Nm and a red zone that is at 9,000 rpm. That power is always transferred to the rear wheels via a robotic seven-speed dual clutch transmission. You can switch manually via the paddles behind the steering wheel or via the poker on the center console, as we also saw with the Porsche 911 GT3.
Nurburgring
We already knew that the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS was particularly fast on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. Test driver and development driver Jörg Bergmeister clocked an impressive 7.04.11, a chrono that cut the RS 23.6 seconds off the GT4’s lap time! And that’s not exactly a snail.
Now we also know that the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS takes 3.4 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h and that it can reach a top speed of 315 km/h.
gooseneck
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS weighs 1,415 kilograms and has an aerodynamically optimized body that combines optimized spoilers – with a so-called gooseneck, as with the Porsche 911 GT3 – with additional ventilation slots. The small rear windows make way for new air scoops, intended to protect the boxer engine from overheating. Compared to the GT4, the downward pressure would have increased by 25%.
The further reinforced chassis of the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS receives a special suspension set-up with specific springs, dampers and anti-roll bars. The optional Weissach package adds 20-inch magnesium wheels or an exhaust line made of titanium.
