Among the three pilots investigated by the Federation for not respecting the reporting of the yellow flags in qualifying for the Qatar Grand Prix there was also Carlos Sainz (together with Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas), guilty of not having lifted his foot in the final sector of the circuit. The situation of the Ferrari driver did not seem so clear, as the Maranello standard bearer seems to have slowed down near the finish line in the presence of the yellow flag waved by the marshal on the left.
Previously, Sainz had not received any reports either on the side panels of the circuit or on the steering wheel of his Rossa number 55. At 11.30 the Spaniard – who finished seventh on the starting grid – came to the Race Direction to discuss his conduct.
The FIA has decided not to penalize Sainz, who was the only one to raise his foot among the pilots investigated: “The driver said that – despite not having seen the yellow flags – he instead saw Gasly’s car on the right of the pit straight, and therefore thought that there was probably a situation of yellow flags. In this way, it significantly slowed the speed in the mini-sector, which was confirmed by the stewards after viewing the telemetry.“, Reads the press release.
