It’s official: after analyzing and assessing the events that occurred at the Corregidora Stadium last Saturday, March 5, Liga MX decided to impose sanctions on Querétaro. Through a press conference, Mikel Arriola, president of the league, and Yon de Luisa, president of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) reported that the current Gallos Blancos board, headed by Gabriel Solares, will be banned for five years after the violent clashes recorded in the building over the weekend, which left 26 people injured.
This means Querétaro’s management rights holder, Grupo Caliente, will have to take the team and put it up for sale with a deadline. The current board of the Roosters may not carry out any management or administrative activity with any club affiliated with the FMF during the period of disqualification.
De Luisa stated that Querétaro will lose the matchday 9 match against Atlas by a score of 3-0, in addition to the fact that the team will play for a year behind closed doors. The league and the federation called on the team to find an alternate venue to play its remaining Clausura 2020 games. In the event that this venue is in Querétaro, the government must guarantee security in the property.
Last weekend’s violence also affected the teams in the youth and women’s categories, which will have to play behind closed doors. The Gallos Blancos animation group, responsible for the attacks last weekend, will not be able to attend Corregidora for three years and will only be removed from the stadiums for one year as a visitor.
The Atlas de Guadalajara bars will not be able to attend any stadium as visitors for the next six months, it was reported at the press conference on Tuesday, March 8.
This Tuesday, March 8, the Querétaro Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest of 10 probable perpetrators of the attacks recorded at the Corregidora Stadium. The authorities reported that 21 searches were carried out in different municipalities of the state and these people were identified due to their possible relationship in the events recorded on Saturday.
The representatives of Liga MX and the FMF pointed out that those responsible for the events of last weekend will not be able to re-enter the Querétaro stadium. Likewise, the order was given to the Mexican soccer clubs to carry out a process of credentialing the animation groups, or bars, in the matches as locals.
The managers of the Liga MX teams will be prohibited from offering tickets or transportation to their animation groups and for the 2022/2023 season the FAN ID will be mandatory to be able to identify the fans who go to the stadium.
