After weeks of negotiations, Cruz Azul finally announced its first reinforcement for the Apertura 2024 tournament of Liga MX: Giorgos Giakoumakis. Through its official social networks, the Celeste Machine welcomed the Greek striker.

The European forward arrives at La Noria after a spell with Atlanta United of Major League Soccer (MLS). Giakoumakis, 29, recorded superlative numbers during his time in American soccer: he played 43 games, scored 24 goals and gave five assists.
This is the first of several signings that the Cruz Azul board has planned for Apertura 2024. The cement team urgently needed the arrival of a nine because it only had Gabriel ‘Toro’ Fernández in this position during Clausura 2024 and the Argentine was injured during the first half of the contest.

The MLS made Giakoumakis’ transfer to Mexican soccer official. For its part, Liga MX welcomed the Greek striker.
