This year’s Formula 1 championship will officially open with the Bahrain Grand Prixwhich will welcome the Circus on the track of Sakhir from 18 to 20 March 2022. However, even before this highly anticipated appointment, the same circuit has in the meantime officially certified its presence in the top flight for many years to come: the Managers of the Bahrain International Circuithave in fact reached an agreement with Formula 1 for the renewal of the contract valid to host the local GP, which will remain on the calendar until 2036. As a result, the Circus will play its race weekends in Sakhir for the next 15 seasons, during which major regulatory changes will take place. In addition to the one ready to materialize in 2022, F1 will progressively approach 2030, the year by which the teams will have to respect the zero CO2 emissions project imposed by the Federation.
Meanwhile, the President and CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, commented on the important renewal established with Bahrain: “I am delighted that we will be racing at the Bahrain International Circuit until 2036 – he has declared – where other incredible rides and thrills will be on display to thrill our fans. We have had some fantastic races in Sakhir since 2004, and we can’t wait to get back there for the start of the 2022 championship as we begin a new era for the sport. Bahrain was the first country in the Middle East to welcome Formula 1, ed has a very special place in our sport. I personally want to thank His Royal Highness Prince Salman and his team for their dedication and hard work during our partnership. Now let’s look forward to the many years of racing that await us “.

An agreement that also excites and satisfies Arif Rahimi, President of the Bahrain International Circuit: “It has been a great honor for Bahrain to host Formula 1 since 2004 – he added – and we are delighted that this new commitment cements our place on the calendar for the future. Our commitment to motorsport has always been a long-term initiative, and I thank Stefano and his F1 team for placing their trust in us to continue to provide the pinnacle of global racing in the Middle East. “. Having entered the F1 world championship in 2004, Bahrain was the first Middle Eastern country to host an official GP. Since then, the Sakhir circuit has continued to be always present on the calendar, with the single exception of 2011: in that year, in fact, the delicate political-social climate of the Arab Spring did not allow for a regular dispute of the event, which returned regularly from 2012 onwards.
