Ocon thinks about Haas
With just five points collected in the span of 18 grands prix contested so far, the 2024 one risks being the worst complete world championship (thus excluding the debut season in 2016, when he made his debut after the summer break with Manor) of his career. Esteban Ocon in F1. Perhaps it is also for this reason that the French driver, rather than worrying about the problematic present of Alpine, rather, he seems to be counting down the GPs still on the calendar, preparing for the future at Haas. In the American team starting from 2025 he will be the man of experience, but he will have to watch his back from the attacker Oliver Bearmanthe young talent from Ferrari who has done so well in his only two appearances in F1 this year.
Bearman’s talent
A talent that Ocon himself – historically one who tends not to get along too well with his teammates, from Sergio Perez to Fernando Alonso via his compatriot Pierre Gasly, with whom there has been bad blood since the days of challenges as kids on karts – did not fail to recognize: “What he did in Baku was absolutely exceptional, but I honestly expected it. I think everyone in the paddock knows how remarkable his talent is. It was impressive, always very fast despite such a technical and difficult track”.
Ocon-Bearman pair in Haas
“I watched the lap he did in Formula 2, when he had the steering bent but still took pole position – the French driver then added, recalling the F2 qualifying in Baku in 2023, when Bearman achieved the best time despite a contact with the barriers – and I think it says everything about him. It means that he is able to go fast with ease regardless of the car he drives. It’s great for him, for the team and also for me that he can get some experience before tackling a full season next year. We’ve chatted a bit about 2025, but we’re always so busy that we haven’t done it enough. But we’ll be spending a lot of time together this winter, so I’m not worried from that point of view. It was great to see him shine in Baku and I’m happy for him and the team”.
