Barça has a leak and no one is rolling up their sleeves to try to stop it. His coach repeats that in modern basketball it is impossible to concede few points, but without a good defense it seems impossible to win anything nowadays. And, at the moment, he is conspicuous by his absence in the Barça team, accustomed to receiving too many points to think about great deeds. Sometimes, his talent is enough to hide that lack. This was not the case in Munich, where Barça, in a performance that bordered on the infamous, was devastated by a hurricane called Andreas Obst.
The German sniper signed with his own hand a new defeat for Barça in the Euroleague, a tournament in which he was the leader not too long ago, with a performance that makes him fully enter the history of the top continental competition. The shooting guard from Halle led Bayern’s offensive display that took Barça ahead with 11 triples, beating the best record that the Euroleague had so far recorded, the ten of Larkin, Eriksson and Goudelock. Specifically, Obst completed a spectacular 11/16 from beyond the arc, thus also fully collaborating in his team’s record, which had never reached 20 triples in the Euroleague as he did against Barça.
Abrines suffered a sprained right ankle in the second quarter and set off all the alarms
The most obscene moment of all surely came in the third quarter, in which the German guard managed to make six triples in the face of the passivity of any rival that stood in front of him. Barça did nothing in the face of such a display, unable to even commit fouls to try to stop the bleeding. With three seconds left in the quarter he committed his second personal goal, a figure that is not up to par for a team that wants to flirt with continental nobility.
Barça not only fell at the SAP Arena leaving a terrible image, they also wasted one of those inspired nights by Jabari Parker, the only Barça player capable of showing an iota of character and rebelling against the situation, which saw his 26 points, including a 8/8 in shots of two, they hardly even served to disguise the result.
The bad news for Barça did not end with the defeat, during the second quarter Álex Abrines sprained his right ankle and set off all the alarms. With Laprovittola and Metu out of action, losing the captain for several weeks is a scenario of unpredictable consequences for this Barça that is not going through its best moment.
