A new chapter opens in the career of Nyck De Vrieswho after his experiences in Formula 1 and Formula E will soon begin another one in another open-wheel category: the Super Formula. The Team Impulsewith a surprise announcement, has in fact officially promoted the Dutchman for the last two tests of the top Japanese championship scheduled for Motegiin mid-August, and for the double header of Fuji in October.
The series, formerly known as Formula Nippon, will welcome this season’s third non-Japanese driver, with the same #19 Team Impul car that saw Theo Pourchaire and Ben Bernicoat at the wheel during this championship. De Vries will thus face his third challenge of the season after the one in Formula Enow concluded, and the WECwhich still sees him engaged in Toyota with teammates Kamui Kobayashi and Mike Conway, with whom he achieved success in the 6 Hours of Imola.
An opportunity in Japanese style to redeem himself from a less than brilliant last period for the 2021 Formula E champion, who after an excellent debut in Formula 1 with Williams at Monza in 2022 spent the following year in AlphaTauri, but with results below expectations. From there, the return to Formula E with Mahindra, but with an 18th place finish in the last world championship. At this time, De Vries will be able to regularly participate in the WEC and Super Formula, given that the appointments of the latter series do not coincide with those of the Endurance World Championship. However, it is unlikely that the Dutchman will be able to take part in three championships next year,
