There was no lack of entertainment in the 52nd edition of the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring, albeit in a smaller version. If last year, for example, the new record of distance traveled was established, equal to 162 laps and with the success of Ferrari, this year the story was completely different: only 50 rounds completedfor a total of 1268.9 km completed.
The motivation for this ‘mini’ 24 Hours is exclusively linked to the conditions bad weather. At sunset, a violent downpour hit the German circuit, which however did not lead to the race being suspended. However, around 11.30pmthe Race Direction instead found itself forced to display the red flag due to the congestion fog formed in the GP-Strecke area, i.e. the part of the track that hosted the F1 Grand Prix from the 1980s to 2000s.
For 14 hours the drivers did not take to the track again, except for five laps completed behind the Safety Car at 1.30pm. Even in this circumstance, however, the fog did not allow the race to proceed smoothly in safe conditions, with the 2024 24 Hours of Nürburgring effectively ending after 7 and a half hours of racing.
In this way theAudi for the seventh time in its history, just as the team has now achieved seven successes Phoenix Racing thanks to the success of the quartet composed of Ricardo Feller, Dennis Marschall, Christopher Mies and Frank Stippler, who were in command at the time of the suspension. The 2024 edition therefore goes down in history for having been the shortest in the history of the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
