The current mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) and federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL), who are in the second round of the dispute for the capital of São Paulo, were invited to 10 debates, within the possible 18 days for the meetings to be held, according to the electoral legislation.
The first of them, which would take place this Thursday, the 10th, was marked by the absence of Nunes. As only Boulos participated, what was supposed to be a debate became a hearing.
The emedebista is against holding so many events, even suggesting a pool between media outlets to reduce meetings from 10 to three. The current mayor claims that this would allow a more focused and purposeful campaign for São Paulo voters.
Boulos refutes the proposal, stating that his opponent is “afraid” of the debates and describes the attitude as an escape, even promising to organize a demonstration in front of City Hall if any of the meetings are canceled due to the mayor’s absence.
Despite 10 invitations, Nunes’ campaign has not confirmed participation in any of the debates so far. Boulos’ campaign claims that the psolist will attend everyone.
