The Lego Ideas section, where enthusiasts propose their sets, is truly full of interesting works, many of which have a video game theme. For example there is a fantastic set inspired by the WipEout series, or the excellent set dedicated to OutRunthe subject of this news.
For those who don’t know, OutRun is a arcade racing game by Yu Suzukideveloped for SEGA, dating back to the 1980s. 1986 to be precise. It became iconic because you drove a Ferrari Testarossa in a particularly well-made cabin cruiser, in a unique and light-hearted context (it was damn fun, let’s face it).
Will it make it official?
Designer Jugles has created a celebratory LEGO set that includes the car, several characters, a panoramic view that recalls the game and many characters, including drivers, cameramen, fans and even the dog. There are some personal touches, but overall it’s a really recognizable moment from the game.
More precisely, the departure from stage 1 is reproduced. In total 1735 bricks were used, with the base designed to recall the original arcade screen. In front there is also a joystick with two buttons, which allows you to move the car slightly. A steering wheel would have been more realistic, but considering the high number of systems Out Run has been converted for, it could still be fine.
Like all other Lego Ideas projects, this one must reach a certain number of user votes before being considered for review, so go and make your contribution if you want it to become official or, at least, to be evaluated by LEGO. The Out Run series has been absent from our screens for some time, after years which saw the release of several episodes such as Turbo OutRun, OutRunners and OutRun 2.
