Even more bad news for the energy bills of many Dutch people: November seems to be a colder month than usual. According to the meteorologists, this is because cold air is blown into the Netherlands from the north of the Atlantic Ocean. Rain, wind and a lot of clouds will contribute to chilly weather next month.
However, because the wind blows over the relatively warm seawater of the North Sea, the chance that it will be winter is small. “Often the coldest November days are the days when it is foggy all day after a cold night. It can even keep freezing all day long. This year we expect that it will not or hardly come to those kinds of days,” says weatherman Yannick Damen Weather Plaza.
Normally we are also treated to rain, clouds and wind in November, but now extra cold air is added. “The amount of precipitation and the number of precipitation days seem to be comparable with the usual 82 millimeters and twenty days with rain,” said Damen.
hot days
November also includes calm, sunny days and also days when it can be foggy. Damen: ,,Even this year, some of these days will not be missing, but the changeable weather will dominate. Sporadically warm days still occur in November when it can reach 20 degrees, especially in the southeast. We don’t expect days like this this year.”
In November, temperatures of 11 to 12 degrees are common at the beginning of the month and 7 to 9 degrees at the end of November. This year, we seem to be around normal more often in the first part of the month and regularly a few degrees below normal in the second part of November, Damen believes.
The nights are probably quite normal with a minimum temperature of 5 to 8 degrees at the beginning of the month and 2 to 4 degrees at the end of the month. This is due to the changeable weather with regular clouds and wind. Towards the end of the month, the chance of a number of nights with frost always increases. “This year is no different.”
