The Italian Alberto Bettiol (EF Education) celebrated second place in the second stage of the Tour of Switzerland as if he had won, without knowing that the Norwegian Andreas Leknessund had crossed the finish line before, a fact that, according to the transalpine cyclist, will cost him “jokes” from his teammates.
“I don’t know what happened, my radio was off, now my friends will joke with me today and tomorrow,” said Bettiol at the finish line after knowing the real result of the stage.

“I just started my approach to the Tour de France, my big event of the year. I didn’t race much in the first part of the year because I had some health problems with COVID and stuff, but I’m very, very happy. I just started and I think that I will improve a lot during the Tour de Suisse. This year is very difficult and I think that is good for me,” said Bettiol.
