NRK: The Norwegian government wanted to build a fence on the border with Russia
The Norwegian government is thinking about building a fence on the border with Russia. This was stated by the country’s Minister of Justice Emily Mehl, her words are quoted by NRK.
Norwegian authorities wanted to build a fence after Finland came to a similar decision. “This is a measure that may become relevant either for the entire border or for some of its sections,” the politician clarified.

Mehl explained that a border fence isn’t just for deterrence—the fences have sensors on them that can be used to detect people.
Norway’s border with Russia is about 200 kilometers. There is a single checkpoint on it – “Borisoglebsk” in the Murmansk region (on the Norwegian side – “Storskog”).
The fence also continues to be built on the Russian border with Finland. Previously, the country’s authorities wanted to strengthen it and raise it by half a meter.
