The Norwegian Police Security Service (PST, its acronym in Norwegian), the Nordic country’s intelligence agency, raised the threat level of terrorist acts to “high” this Tuesday (8).
“We are raising the threat level from moderate to high in Norway due to several factors, mainly the current escalation in the Middle East,” the PST said in a statement, adding that “Jewish and Israeli targets” are most threatened in Norway, according to information from France-Presse agency.
In August, Israel revoked the accreditation of eight Norwegian diplomats who worked in the Norwegian representative office to the Palestinian Authority.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said the move was taken because “Norway chose to reward Hamas murderers and rapists by recognizing a Palestinian state.”
Another source of tension between the two countries is that Norway said it would comply with an arrest order requested by the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor’s office against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, as well as three Hamas leaders, on suspicion of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the current conflict in the Middle East.
Norway has also joined South Africa in a lawsuit at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Israel, over accusations of genocide in the current offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
