Norway|Due to the incident, 20 people were arrested in Finland between May and June.
Norwegian the police are investigating a Norwegian-Finnish network, which is suspected of swindling money from elderly Norwegians over the phone, said a Norwegian Verdens Gang magazine on Monday. Due to the incident, 20 people were arrested in Finland between May and June, after which 5 more people have been arrested in Norway. According to the Norwegian police, some of those arrested in Finland are Norwegians.
The Norwegian police do not have an exact idea of how many victims the network’s crimes have. According to the Finnish authorities, by mid-summer, the elderly had been defrauded of a total of around one million euros.
The fraudsters had appeared in the calls as employees of banks or the police. They had extorted, for example, bank credentials and passwords from their victims, after which they had emptied the victims’ accounts. The operation has continued even after the first arrests.
