The first two sessions of free practice for the Belgian Grand Prix they provided little precise information to the teams in view of the next scheduled appointments with qualifying and the race, mainly thanks to the weather conditions which were anything but stable. A Friday, therefore, which turned out to be complex for many drivers and teams, even if there McLaren he did not hide a certain satisfaction for the work done during the day of rehearsals.
The first to show positivity and optimism for the rest of the weekend was Lando Norris, which is presented in Belgium as 3rd classified in the drivers’ world: “Of course we all got back on track without pushing straight away – English commented – but it was still not a bad day. We have seen some improvements on the car, and I think we are in the right direction to be able to present a more performing car in view of PL3 and qualifying, also thanks to the work we will do tonight. It was a difficult day due to the weather, but I am confident that I have a car available that will be able to compete tomorrow to get a good result in qualifying where we will have our say ”.
The teammate has the same opinion Daniel Ricciardo, ready to compete in his 200th GP in Formula 1 with the knowledge that he has solved some problems encountered with the tires: “It’s not entirely easy to get back in the car after the holidays – analyzed the Australian – but it was nice to start over. I enjoyed it, and this track helps you to experience wonderful sensations. Our performance with the soft tires it wasn’t good, but we understand the reason for this behavior, so I can’t say I’m worried. On the other hand, we fared better with the hard ones. Moreover – concluded the number 3 of the house in Woking – we have made some progress, which we hope to refine further over the course of the night. We avoided the rain for most of the day, and we will see what happens tomorrow ”.
Finally, the executive director of the racing department also spoke on behalf of the team Andrea Stella, also hoping to put into practice all the work that will await the mechanics of the British team: “Overall, we had a good Friday – commented the Italian manager – even though the day was interrupted several times by red flags and a little rain at the start of each session. Tonight we will analyze the data we have collected to optimize the details in order to be as competitive as possible for Saturday and Sunday. Spa is a very treacherous circuit, but we will try to get in the points this weekend ”.
