George Russell’s promotion to Mercedes for the 2022 season has created an all-British line-up in Brackley’s squad, with the 24-year-old rejoining the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. An internal struggle that is not easy to sustain, but which, four races from the end of the world championship, is rewarding the newcomer, who has a further advantage in the standings compared to his compatriot. Last season, when Russell was not yet official in Mercedes, there were also some rumors about the hiring of another Englishman such as Lando Norriswith the latter having then rejected all rumors by renewing his contract with McLaren until 2025.
A year later, however, the virtual scenario of a possible coexistence in the same box between Norris and Hamilton has reappeared, this time through a simple question on social media in a video for British GQ. To the curiosity of an enthusiast, who asked number 4 if he was able to beat Hamilton in an internal challenge, the Englishman replied in this way: “It’s a tough question, but I have to say yes – He admitted – it would not be easy at all, because Lewis is one of the greatest ever, but if you want to do well, you have to believe that you are better than the others ”.
A reply that was not interpreted in any way as offensive or arrogant towards Hamilton, with whom there is in fact a good relationship. Moreover, the same Mercedes driver he hadn’t spared a few compliments at the McLaren rider’s address, especially during the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix, where Norris defended himself tooth and nail from the attacks of number 44 on the Spielberg circuit for several laps in the first stint of the race.
