Bombs on Nord Stream placed by maintenance robots
The Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, in the exclusive economic zones of Sweden and Denmark, were reportedly hit in four places by explosions with 500 kilos of TNT, the equivalent of the explosive power of an airplane bomb. This was revealed by intelligence sources quoted by the German magazine Spiegel
German investigators have taken seismic readings to calculate the strength of the explosions and in their opinion remote-controlled divers or robots may be able to visit the leak sites in the next few hours.
Nord Stream: Gazprom, 800 million cubic meters of gas leaked
From the pipes of the Nord Stream gas pipelines affected by the recent explosions, 800 million cubic meters of natural gas escaped. This was stated by Gazprom as reported by TASS, which cited the intervention of the spokesman of the Russian gas giant, Sergei Kupriyanov: in a video link during a session at the United Nations assembly, he said that the volume of gas leaked was equivalent to three months supply for Denmark.
Nord Stream, Gazprom: difficult repair. We have no timing
The Russian energy giant Gazprom says it has started evaluating solutions to make the damaged Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines operational again, which have registered several leaks in recent days, considered to be the result of sabotage. However, the task “will be technically daunting,” spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov told the UN Security Council in New York via video link. The spokesperson explained that there is no timeline for repairs as such leaks have never occurred before. Kupriyanov called the situation “absolutely unprecedented”.
