Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev called the Russian export gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 a means of filling the gap in the European energy market. His words lead TASS…
According to the diplomat, natural gas can become a reliable and safe source of energy for the “green transition” – to renewable energy sources. He also pointed out that in the context of the recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, the world economy needs more natural gas.
“The corresponding growth cannot be offset by renewable energy alone. Nord Stream 2 can fill the gap that is currently observed in the international energy market, ”Nechaev said.
At present, Nord Stream 2 is undergoing certification in Germany, where the gas pipeline route ends. The country’s authorities must confirm that the pipeline operator, Nord Stream 2 AG, is independent of the gas supplier, as required by the EU Gas Directive.
