Denmark’s maritime authority detected the incident and limited navigation to a 5km radius of the spill.
The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which links Russia and Germany, had a gas leak in the Baltic Sea, according to the news agency. AP News.
The Danish maritime authority said in a statement that the leak was detected 20 km from Bornholm Island and prohibited navigation within a radius of approximately 5 km of the occurrence. Here’s the intact of the press release (292 KB).
“The incident is not expected to have consequences for Denmark’s gas supply,” the country’s official said.
The information was also confirmed by the operator of Nord Stream 2.
The pipeline was built and filled with gas, but the opening was canceled earlier this year by the German government in retaliation for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Nord Stream 2 is majority-owned by Russian energy company Gazprom.
Germany, like other European countries, depends on natural gas supplies from Russia and has faced energy supply crises since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
