Nonino Prize 2024, here are all the winners

The presentation of the prizes and the celebrations for the fiftieth anniversary of the creation of Monovitigno® Noninothe Grappa Revolution 1973-2023 will take place at Nonino distilleries in Ronchi di Percoto, Saturday 27 January 2024 at 11.00. The awards ceremony will be broadcast in live streaming on grappanonino.it from 12.15 pm.

Nonino Risit D'Aur Award – Golden cuttings 2024 to Angelo Floramo and COOPERATIVA TOGETHER 'Frutti di Pace'
Angelo Floramo, academic, historian, medievalist and scientific consultant of the Guarneriana Library of San Daniele del Friuli is, as he likes to define himself, “son of the frontier”. In his wanderings for study among the oldest libraries, villages and monasteries in Italy and Europe he has always searched for the threads that bind the Friulian culture to Slovenian culture where the two cultures merge (Balkan Circus 2013 and The Luba Vigil 2018 editions Ediciclo and Bottega Errante).
In search of common roots through “mothers” – the “majke” – who linked to their lands become song in the deepest sense of existence, he came across the cooperative TOGETHER of the women of Bratunac And Srebrenica, Bosnian women as they like to define themselves, not Serbs, Croats, Bosniaks, non-Muslims, Catholics, Orthodox, Jews. Women and that's it. These women demonstrate that it is possible to rebuild a collective identity against the divisions imposed by war and have started a process of mourning based on the recognition of the value of the pain of others, no longer understood as enemies but as victims of the same violence. This is the incalculable ethical value of the INSIEME cooperative “Frutti per la pace” created in 2003 by a group of “pacifists in practice”, like their president, Radmila Zarkovic.
Nonino International Award 2024 to Alberto Manguel
Alberto Manguel he is a true man of Renaissance. A brilliant writer, talented storyteller, translator, curator and passionate believer in the power of books and reading, he believes that books essentially help us understand ourselves and the world around us. He has dedicated his life to promoting the love of reading and libraries and to making books accessible to all.
Alberto Manguel he is a master of non-fiction, his writing is always insightful, thought-provoking and beautifully crafted, he has the gift of bringing different cultures and perspectives together and helping us see the world in a new and unexpected way. In these chaotic times, of conflicts and vulgarization of culture, Alberto Manguel fights for spirituality and affection towards culture, strengthening his prestige as a leading figure in the world of ideas and literature. His works are published in Italy by Sellerio, Vita e Pensiero and Einaudi.
Nonino Prize 2024 to Rony Brauman for Médecins sans frontiéres
Rony Brauman he dedicated his life to the service of human suffering. For twelve years he was the soul of «Doctors Without Borders», the Nobel Prize-winning humanitarian organization founded in Paris in 1971 and active in 75 countries with a staff of over 68,000 people, which provides aid to victims of war, racism and repression throughout the world.
Brauman, a French doctor born in Jerusalem, has courageously denounced the persecution suffered by Palestinians and his public interventions allow us to better understand the current tragedy of which the populations of Gaza and the West Bank are victims. For these reasons, it represents a great humanist conscience of our time that the Nonino Prize Jury is proud to honor. Deliver the prize Edgar Morin.
Nonino Prize “Master of our time” 2024 to Naomi Oreskes
Naomi Oreskesprofessor at Harvard University and Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, is a world-renowned Earth scientist, historian and popularizer with a philosopher's nature and a love for literature. She is one of the most important intellectuals publicly engaged on the role of science in society and the reality of anthropogenic climate change.
Author of scientific and popular books – Why trust Science? Boringhieri stamps 2021 – with his writings he highlighted the scientific consensus on human-caused climate change and drew attention to the efforts of American companies to undermine this knowledge; he uses reason to fight climate change denial and science delegitimization campaigns.
