Nominations for the sixth edition of the Zayed Prize for Human Fraternity for the year 2025 began today, to honor individuals and entities that work to promote human brotherhood and human solidarity around the world.
Candidates who are eligible to submit nominations, including members of governments, heads of non-governmental organizations, academics, religious leaders and other influential figures, can submit their nominations through the official website of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity (https://zayedaward.org/), during the period from June 3 to June 1. From October 2024.
The award was established in 2019 following the historic meeting in Abu Dhabi that brought together His Holiness Pope Francis, Pope of the Catholic Church, and His Eminence Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, where they signed the Document on Human Fraternity.
It is considered an independent global award granted by the Supreme Committee for Human Fraternity, with a value of one million US dollars, and it is granted annually during the International Day of Human Fraternity on the fourth of February of each year, which was unanimously adopted by the United Nations General Assembly to commemorate the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity.
The winner(s) who are guided by their humanitarian efforts and the impact they make on societies are honored in the footsteps of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him, at a ceremony held in Abu Dhabi at the Founding Zayed Memorial.
The independent jury, composed of experts in the field of peacebuilding and coexistence, will review the nominations and select the winners, who will be honored during a ceremony held in February 2025, coinciding with the celebration of the International Day of Human Fraternity.
Since the inception of the award, a number of leaders, activists, and humanitarian organizations have been honored from various parts of the world, including: His Holiness Pope Francis, the Pope of the Catholic Church, “honorary recipient of the award,” His Eminence the Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, “honorary recipient of the award,” and the Secretary-General of the United Nations. United Nations António Guterres, anti-extremism activist Latifa Ben Ziaten, His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and his wife Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, the Haitian humanitarian organization Focale Knowledge and Freedom Foundation, the Sant’Egidio Community Organization, and the Kenyan peacemaker. Shamsa Abu Bakar Fadil, the Indonesian philanthropic organizations Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah, world-renowned heart surgeon Professor Sir Majdi Yacob, and the founder of the Chilean NGO Sister Nelly Leon Correa.
