The mayor of the port city defends the figure of protection for geographical indications of artisanal and industrial products
The mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, spoke at the plenary session of the Committee of the Regions to defend the figure of protection for geographical indications of artisanal and industrial products, referring to the tradition of glass and lace made in Cartagena.
Arroyo defended in plenary the ancient productions of the Cartagena region, such as lace and esparto work. “We even have in mind an iconic product for Cartagena, the Asian coffee, a coffee preparation that combines different ingredients produced in the city, and that is served in an exclusively designed glass, coming from our glass tradition.”
For the mayor, “this figure of protection could enrich, even more so, this product that is so much ours, which is part of our hallmark.” Arroyo considers that this figure of protection will be able to promote the competitiveness of economic sectors with deep roots in our territories but, in addition, it will allow our municipalities to grow in tourist attraction “joining our name to quality and tradition”.
