The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, called this Wednesday for an end to the hypocrisy that, according to him, reflects the UN climate conference (COP26), organized in Scotland.

“Enough of hypocrisy and fads, what must be done is to fight the monstrous inequality that exists in the world”, said the leftist president at a press conference, criticizing the incongruity of world powers, which, in his opinion, “increase production at the same time they hold these summits to protect the environment.”
The government official criticized the heads of state who arrived in Glasgow on private planes. He is represented at COP26 by chancellor Marcelo Ebrard.
López Obrador compared the environmental summits to the Davos forum, where “technocrats” argued that “the neoliberal model would save us”. “If we seek to protect the environment, what must be done is to make decisions, to act, it is not speech,” he said, stating that his country invests 1.3 billion dollars a year “in the most important reforestation program in the world” .
