No mobile data or coverage: telecos, affected by the electric blackout

The massive electric blackout that has occurred in Spain and other European countries also wreaks havoc on the telecommunications sector, with affectation between large companies such as Telefónica, Masorange and Vodafone. From Vodafone they have confirmed the problems and suggest that the situation could go worse since they now support part of the network with generators and batteries: «The control centers of the network, datacentes and systems are operational and have autonomy of more than 24 hours. The Vodafone mobile network temporarily remains active at 70%, thanks to reserve generators and batteries, but its operation will depend on the duration of the incidence ».

In this sense, they point out that they have activated a crisis committee. “Measures are being taken in the network infrastructure to maintain communications, prioritizing and managing the resources and capacity in the most efficient way,” reports the company.

Users from all over Spain have reported a massive electric blackout at 12.30 pm on Monday and all eyes point to Red Eléctrica, which has announced that the plans to replace the electricity supply have been activated in collaboration with companies in the sector.

In a brief statement they announce that the causes are being analyzed and all the resources are being dedicated to solve it. The electrical consumption chart provided by Red Electrica has registered a collapse at 12.30.

Thus, the mass blackout has affected the great part of the autonomies. Some communities that are not affected are the Balearic Islands, Ceuta, Melilla and the Canary Islands. Problems have also been reported in Portugal and other European countries.
