Once a minister was present at an Orange match. That was the third game in the group stage against the host country. Then minister Conny Helder (Sport) was in the stands. She then also spoke with Qatari ministers about the working conditions of migrants.
In the run-up to the match, Helder was surrounded for weeks by a social and political debate about the question of which statement the Netherlands should make in the stands. That eventually became a hard-to-see pin of the OneLove campaign. Unlike the Belgian and German ministers who visited a match of their country, Helder did not wear a clearly visible bracelet from the OneLove campaign.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte said after the last cabinet meeting that there will certainly be a government delegation if the Orange reaches the final. ,,For the intermediate matches (…) we will see if we go each time. Not in principle, but we will look at what other countries, our opponents, who they delegate at government level, and then we may go too. But in principle we only go to the final.”
