The Nissan x-trail It is a model that despite its evolutions has never altered its essence. That it is the product of a Japanese brand already says a lot; the changes may not be as visible as they are with vehicles of other brands, but they feel.
The evolution of the third generation of this classic Japanese 4×4, is. You can see it, but it is more obvious when handled.
Before going into detail it is worth putting it in context. In these latitudes, a backward version is still marketed compared to the one sold, for example, in Japan and Europe. There, since the middle of last year the fourth generation of the X-Trail has been offered, which at first glance presents really profound changes in aesthetic matters.
It has the classic All Mode 4x4i system that, depending on the use, can transmit power to the front axle, automatically distribute it forward and backward or maintain a 50/50 even distribution.
In our country, this third generation was presented in 2018 (2015 in the world). In this way, the brand was once again present in the mid-size 4×4 segment after several years of absence.
Of course, a few months after its arrival it had a first update of equipment, highlighting the incorporation of the blind angle alert, the 360-degree vision camera and the detection system of nearby objects in motion, three pillars of its NIM technology package (in Spanish, Smart Mobility Nissan).
This update presented in our market at the beginning of 2021 preserved its package of driving assistance devices, although without adding others present in its competitors such as adaptive cruise control or automatic emergency brake, among others.
Renovated front: new grill, headlights and fog lights.
Not to be confused, it has a good safety equipment, but it was somewhat relegated. Instead yeah won in comfort.
Seen from the outside, the “new” Nissan X-Trail differs from its predecessor mainly in the nose, where it incorporated a more imposing grille (the brand calls it V-Motion), a new group of headlights with shaped LED daytime running lights. of boomerang, and renewed fog lights elongated (the previous ones were round).
Another of the new exterior features is the shark fin antenna located on the upper rear of the vehicle, where redesigned optics and a new bumper can also be seen.
Continuing on the back, those who now want to open the gate can do so without hands and without the need to use the smart key command. The action is executed with only slide your foot under the bumper; an ideal solution for when we are loaded and we cannot use our hands.
They changed the steering wheel and the gear selector. The screen is still the same 7 “touch screen.
The interior, meanwhile, also received a restyling. The steering wheel now has a more ergonomic design (it has a flat base), the same as the gear selector of the CVT box. What’s more. in that sector a electronic handbrake, that is activated and unlocked with the push of a button.
Who expected to find an updated multimedia system and a larger screen they should keep waiting. The X-Trail kept its 7-inch touchscreen and infotainment device still lacks Android Auto and Apple Car Play, two systems that at this point should be yes or yes, considering their price and that are already offered by almost all models in the fleet.
What the X-Trail does not negotiate is the excellence in quality of its materials, comfort on board or the efficiency of its mechanics.
Despite its off-road design, it is a vehicle with which you enjoy traveling every day in the city. Its ride comfort and structural robustness is difficult to find in another model with these characteristics.
Its 4.70 meters long and 2 meters wide provide a generous interior space, especially in the rear seats whose seats can be adjusted in depth. In addition, the floor is flat, which allows to get a better rest for the legs.
The center seat, reserved for an occupant of medium to small build, has a soft backrest allowing it to be folded away and used as an armrest / cup holder. These parts are normally hard and make the passenger uncomfortable. Another highlight is the huge panoramic glass roof which runs the length of both squares.
As we said, mechanics is another of its pillars. The X-Trail still retains the eternal 2.5-liter gasoline engine with 171 horsepower which has given him very good results. And while this is an important attribute, it must also be recognized that some of its competitors offer more modern and powerful engines.
The one on the X-Trail offers a system for reduce fuel consumption, which is activated by pressing a button (ECHO). In doing so, the accelerator is less sensitive to the right foot, unless it is fully accelerated. Without that option connected, the engine responds quickly.
The panoramic sunroof occupies the length of the two seats.
In turn, another seal remains his traction management system, which makes it possible to send the force only to the front axle, to distribute it automatically between both axles or to maintain a constant 50/50 distribution between the front and rear wheels.
The new X-Trail is offered in two trim variants, both affected by excise duty.
