The prolonged conflict between Russia and Ukraine is not good for the European automotive sector. More and more car manufacturers are cutting off all types of activities and commercial relationships existing in the country led by Vladimir Putin, confirming a clear stance towards the war. The decision taken by moves in this direction Nissan to suspend production in Russia for six months: the stop was ordered for throughout the first half of the commercial year in progress, started last April 1st.
The announcement was made by Makoto Uchida, the CEO of Nissan, who at the general meeting of the Japanese company said that see no prospect of improvement the situation linked to the war between Russia and Ukraine. “We believe that this situation can become even more serious and that it can continue for a long time to come”, stressed a spokesman for Uchida in reference to the times of the conflict. The number one of the Japanese brand has made it known that he has already informed the workers of the Russian plants of the company, reassuring them that the company will continue to monitor the situation to minimize the impact of the war. However, that taken by Nissan seems to be a solitary decision: since the invasion of Ukraine began, therefore starting from the end of March, only 2.4% of Japanese companies operating locally decided to cut trade ties with Russia.
On the occasion of the same assembly, Uchida also spoke of the relationship with its ally Renault and the debate it had with the latter regarding electric vehicles after Losanga announced its intention to spin off its EV division. “We will carefully explore each solution and do it from every possible angle, then alone we will decide how to behave“concluded Uchida in response to a possible spin-off of the EV division also for what concerns the Japanese car manufacturer.
