Faith cannot be tied to caste and religion. A similar view was seen at Osmanpur Chhat Ghat in Nagarnausa block. Here, a Muslim woman, resident of Badi Masjid village of Nagarnausa, came to offer arghya with her family. The special thing is that Muslim families do Chhath Mahaparva with full devotion. The tradition is not new, but has been going on for the last five years.
Nisrat Khatoon, a resident of Badi Masjid, says he has four sons and three daughters. She has been doing Chhath Puja for the last five years in a row. In the sixth Mayya, Shraddha is so much that she says that as long as life lasts, she will do Chhath. Ever since the beginning of Chhath, there has been prosperity and happiness in the house. The income of the husband increased with the son. The whole family is happy.
‘Relatives also help in Chhath Puja’
Nisrat Khatoon says that no person from the society has been stopped till today in performing Chhath Puja. No one has any problem that as a Muslim, we are doing Chhath Puja. Relatives also come home on the occasion of Chhath and help in performing Chhath Puja. Moreover, the Prasad of Chhath is also happily taken by everyone to their respective homes.
‘Nobody ever protested at home’
Nisrat Khatoon says that seeing the Chhath Puja with great reverence and faith on behalf of the Hindu women in the village, he also wished to worship Chhathi Mayya. After this he started Chhath Mahaparva. The family members did not protest in any way.
