It thundered so much that it rained … or almost. There was actually a new Nintendo Switch model in the works at the big N headquarters, but it turned out to be somewhat different hardware than the rumors painted: not a more powerful “Pro” version, but simply a restyle that yes, offers something more, but without drastically impacting performance. In this article find some of our reflections about it …
Nintendo Switch OLED will arrive on October 8 at the price of 350 € (find all the info here), but for whom it is meant?
If you’ve popped into this article, chances are you already have one (in this case there is an offer for you), or that you are considering the purchase, which is why we have thought to explain to you which model might be the most suitable for you (here you will find a technical analysis of all three models)
Which Nintendo Switch to buy then? Let’s find out together.
– Nintendo Switch Standard
Let’s start from the beginning, the very first model, the Nintendo Switch “Standard”. Launched in 2017, it now has its years on its back, but it still defends itself very well, mind you. The lack of really concrete news between this and the new model, pushes us to suggest not to see it as a series B product, far from it: waiting to find out if Nintendo will cut its price, or if it will simply stop producing it so as to definitely replace it with the OLED model, what we can tell you is that it is absolutely a good compromise, especially if you find it on offer, or even used if you want.
However, it is not just a question of money: paying it as much as a Lite (or less) is not the only pro, because unlike the latter, it will always offer you the complete experience, that is, both on the move and the classic living room gaming. In short, perfect for the user without too many pretensions, who wants to enjoy the wonderful Nintendo exclusives, and who can finally do so by securing it (hopefully) at a cheaper price.
– Nintendo Switch Lite
Its exclusively handheld nature can only bring to mind the Nintendo DS, which tends to be used by a younger audience. Its simplicity and immediacy of use, which allows you to use it anywhere, without any constraint to the dock, the TV and a specific room in the house, makes it perfect for the little ones, but not only. The hybrid nature of the standard Nintendo Switch has inevitably offered both options of use, but there are still not a few who, on balance, have always considered it exclusively in its portable form and consequently used as a faithful bedside companion, before going to sleep, or travel.
Therefore, in tracing the identikit of the potential Nintendo Switch Lite buyer, commuters and those who travel very often for work are included. Playing comfortably sprawling on the sofa, watching the TV, is quite another thing, but if you already have another reference home console, comparing the Lite version to a distant descendant of the DS / 3DS is not so wrong, also because the various masterpieces (The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey and others) are also splendid on the small screen, as well as very comfortable to play.
But be careful: some games, albeit very few such as Super Mario Party or Ring Fit Adventure, they are not compatible with this version of the console of the Great N.
– Nintendo Switch OLED
It goes without saying, but the identikit of the typical user of this version can only be L’hardcore gamer, that is to say that group of enthusiasts who cannot avoid buying any news on the market, or who simply cannot and do not want to compromise of any kind.
As anticipated, the news are not so drastic: the games will run in the exact same way on this version, as on the others. Simply, in portable mode you will enjoy them much better, thanks to the slightly larger screen (going from 6.2 inches to 7) and clearly sharper, thanks to the OLED (which is objectively another thing compared to the LCD screen) and to the improvements made to the integrated speakers. We wait to get out of balance until we try it, but it’s clearly the best in that respect.
Detail not to be underestimated, always remaining from a hardcore gaming perspective, the new dock (with a slightly more pleasant shape, among other things) also offers a LAN port, absent in the Standard version, which guarantees a very stable and unscratchable connection compared to normal. Wi-Fi, essential for those aiming for match ranked in the multiplayer modes of their favorite titles. With the internal memory doubled (64 GB against 32 of the other models, although still expandable), the compromises will also be minor in terms of installed games, which is not bad. We already know that you are starting to repackage the old one, so as to bring it back to a GameStop to switch to the new one, don’t worry (among other things, enjoying a truly exceptional discounts, as you can read here).
