In the last few hours the head Twinfinite released the results regarding Nintendo’s fiscal year, which ended at the end of June 2021, revealing how much Nintendo Switch has sold, making a comparison last year as well. The data at first glance may seem negative, especially regarding the sale of the console itself but there is a reason behind this data.
Contrary to what happened with Sony, which recently confirmed to be able to increase the sale of PlayStation 5, Nintendo had a 9.9% drop in sales from one year to the next, with a forecast that does not seem to be positive for 2022. However, these data should also be read, as the comparison is made with the fiscal year of 2020, which saw the release of a certain title.
March 2020 has indeed seen the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a title that in addition to having immediately climbed the Italian and the rest of the world rankings, has contributed a lot to the sale of the hybrid console. Precisely for this reason the data, despite being negative, are to be considered very positive, since they see a constant sale of consoles.
In fact, over the past year A total of 28.83 million consoles were sold, with an overall increase of over 37% compared to 2020 for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite. The best-selling title is in fact Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which reaches a total of 20.85 million copies sold.
As for the other more recent games, New Pokémon Snap sold a total of 2.07 million in the West, given this, however, that does not take into account sales in Japan, as it is published directly by The Pokémon Company. As you can also see in the image above, taken from the official document available at this link, the greatest increase was obtained in March 2020.
The results therefore seem to be generally positive, despite the numbers with a sign in front. Nintendo therefore continues its positive sales trend, both of games and hardware, not to mention the imminent arrival of the new Nintendo Switch model, recently presented with a release date.
