Completely unexpectedly, nintendo today revealed Alarmo, an alarm clock that makes use of motion technologies to ensure that the user gets out of bed. Many are surely wondering where this unusual idea for Mario’s parents came from.. Well, we finally have an answer.
A few moments ago, Nintendo shared an interview with Yosuke Tamori, producer, and Tetsuya Akama, director of Alarmo, who revealed that this concept arose during the pandemic while experimenting with motion technology, something that ultimately culminated in a project focused on supporting people while they sleep. This is what Tamori commented on the matter:
“One of our internal projects was to investigate motion sensor technology. Since this sensor maintains privacy by not using a camera, it occurred to us that it could be very suitable for use in the bedroom, so we decided to start a new project to see what we could do with it.
We knew the issue was helping people sleep and we were looking for a way to achieve this. However, it was only after a lot of technical trial and error, and building many prototypes, that we decided to focus on alarm clocks.”
This goes hand in hand with some Nintendo products we’ve seen over the years, which are focused on, mainly, helping the health of users. Considering the pace of release of these products, it is very likely that we will see something like Alarm in the future, but it is difficult to know when this would happen. Author’s Note:
The fact that Nintendo approves this type of projects is impressive. While other companies are focused on innovating their respective hardware, the Big N has enough space to experiment with all kinds of ideas without many restrictions.
