Nigerian 73 children have been abducted in the northwestern state of Zamfara, Reuters reports.
According to local police sources, armed criminal forces attacked a secondary school in the village of Kaya on Wednesday afternoon during Finnish time.
“We have sent a search and rescue team to an area that also has the right to work with the military to rescue kidnapped students,” Zamfara police spokesman Mohammed Shehu said in a statement.
State schools were ordered to close and more security forces have been sent to the Kaya area to prevent further attacks.
A total of more than 1,100 children and young people have been abducted by criminal forces since January 2020.
