Radical Nice supporters jumped onto the Allianz Riviera turf to attack the Olympique de Marseille players, during Sunday night’s Ligue 1 matchday three game. The match was interrupted with a quarter of an hour remaining. .
In the 74th minute, the Nice fans invaded the pitch and headed towards the visiting players. The situation caused a general brawl until three minutes later the players were able to leave the field and protect themselves in the changing rooms.
The problem started when Olympique Marseille’s Dimitri Payet was about to take a corner kick. The French player returned to the stands a bottle that had been thrown at him from the north end, where the most radical fans of Nice are located. It was then that the violent men broke through the security checkpoint and stormed onto the lawn.
The referee decided to suspend the match, which was ahead of Nice (1-0), after the goal scored by Danish Kasper Dolberg in the 49th minute.
