Economics Minister, Vice Chancellor and Green Party politician Robert Habeck now wants to become Chancellor. But his reputation has suffered.
Berlin – From Vice Chancellor to Chancellor: Robert Habeck is aiming for the Chancellery. And he probably wants to be chosen as candidate for chancellor at the Green Party conference in mid-November. But according to a survey, the economics minister has clearly lost his appeal among Germans. His image has suffered. This is shown by the property profile that Forsa has for the magazine star at irregular intervals for top politicians, as the magazine announced.
Robert Habeck only continues to achieve absolute majorities in two factors: 52 percent each find him likeable – or say that he speaks understandably. Although the Vice Chancellor is said to have just replaced the Green party leaders, only 25 percent of Germans consider him to be a strong leader – that is ten percentage points less than a year and a half ago.
Germans consider Habeck to be incompetent
What about competence? The Economics Minister also clearly loses out on this important criterion. The Germans doubt his abilities. The controversial heating law is probably having an impact here. Because: Only 36 percent consider Habeck to be competent – eight percentage points less than a year ago. The losses are similarly great for the trait “knows what moves people”. Only 28 percent say that about the politician (a decrease of nine percentage points).
The supporters of the AfD and the Sarah Wagenknecht alliance are particularly critical of Habeck. However, the Vice Chancellor continues to be well received by the remaining Green Party supporters. 80 percent of them think he is competent and 83 percent think he is likeable. It is striking that Habeck also performs well above average among SPD voters. They find him 80 percent likeable and 59 percent competent. So it’s quite possible that the deputy can at least steal a few votes from his unpopular boss Olaf Scholz.
Note: The data was collected by the market and opinion research institute Forsa for Stern and RTL Deutschland by telephone between October 2nd and 4th, 2024. The survey is therefore representative. Database: 1008 surveys. Statistical margin of error: +/- 3 percentage points. The comparison values come from a survey of the same name from March 2023
