Storm leaves Stanley Cup winners Colorado
Colorado Nico Sturm was the fifth German to win the Stanley Cup. Now the 27-year-old is leaving the reigning champion. Goalkeeper Thomas Greiss also has a new club.
The German ice hockey pros Nico Sturm and Thomas Greiss will remain in the North American professional league NHL. Stanley Cup winner Sturm is moving from champion Colorado Avalanche to the San Jose Sharks. Goalkeeper Greiss, whose contract with the Detroit Red Wings has expired, is drawn to the St. Louis Blues.
Striker Sturm has signed a three-year contract with the Sharks. The 27-year-old only moved from Minnesota Wild to Colorado in March, and Sturm won the Stanley Cup with the team in June as the fifth German.
Greiss has signed a one-year deal with the Blues for $1.25 million plus bonuses, the club said. The 36-year-old has played in 347 NHL games for Detroit, the New York Islanders, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Phoenix Coyotes and the San Jose Sharks.
