NFL pro Johnson explains
:
That’s why the NFL offers a “better product” than the Bundesliga
Stuttgart Jakob Johnson plays football for the New England Patriots in the NFL. He is also a fan of Bundesliga soccer team VfB Stuttgart. But he says the league is boring – and sees clear advantages in US sport over the Bundesliga.
The German football professional Jakob Johnson from the NFL team New England Patriots sees the US football league as superior to the Bundesliga in terms of tension. “If you enjoy watching Bayern Munich become German champions every year, then so be it. That’s nothing for me. I think the NFL offers a much better product there,” said the 27-year-old in an interview with the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” (Saturday).
The system in the USA in American football enables significantly more equal opportunities than in the Bundesliga, said Johnson, who was born in Stuttgart and is a VfB fan. In the NFL, the champion is determined in playoffs after the regular season. In addition, America’s weakest team from preseason gets first access to top college talent with payroll caps.
In Germany, a discussion about play-offs in football has flared up in order to break the paralyzing dominance of FC Bayern, at least from time to time.
In the Super Bowl, the final of the NFL, the Los Angeles Rams meet the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday night (12:30 a.m. / Pro 7). “The Bengals are the best example of this: If you’re down now, it doesn’t say anything about your future. If you pull together as a team, a Cinderella story like that in Cincinnati is definitely possible,” said Johnson, who is betting on a Rams win. It was recently announced that the football professional was joining the Stuttgart Surge football team as a part owner.
