For some, a journey of more than ten hours is precisely the reason to go on holiday by car, but others prefer to take the plane. For those who want to go on holiday to Norway by car, but dread the journey, there is a new option. From next year there will be a ferry to Norway from Groningen. Cars, caravans and trucks can travel on the boat, as well as passengers on foot. In total there is room for 2,500 people. The Holland Norway Lines (HNL) boat departs from Eemshaven and arrives in Kristiansand, about four hours from Oslo.
The journey takes just as long as by car
You should take the ferry to Norway from Groningen because you find it easy or fun, because you hardly save time. The ship departs at 3:00 PM and arrives at 9:00 AM. There is no time difference, so that is an 18 hour trip. If you drive from the Netherlands to Kristiansand by car, you also lose 18 hours. You can cross off the breaks along the way against the time you lose boarding. Then you drive via Denmark and Sweden. The big advantage of a pound is that you can sleep in the meantime, and arrive in Norway rested.
Let’s just say you want to go to Oslo. Then it is only a 15 hour drive. However, you are 1,500 kilometers further, and you also have to go back. That takes a sip of gas. The return ticket Norway Groningen by ferry costs 250 euros per person if you go by car. If you go with two people, the costs do not vary that much. Another advantage of the car is that you can make stops in Hamburg, Copenhagen and Mälmo. Gothenburg is not bad either. In the end you will have to choose what you like best. The first boat will leave at least April 7, 2022.
