Waffenruhe runs out: 15 deaths in Südlibanon
In the south of Lebanon, the tensions last despite the ceasefire conveyed by the USA with Israel. As the Ministry of Health announced in Beirut, 15 people have now been killed in Israeli attacks, and 83 other people were injured. According to the information, the residents tried, contrary to Israeli orders, to return to the areas that are still occupied by Israel. After warning shots, soldiers had opened the fire.
A spokesman for the Israeli military turned to the population of the South Libanon in a contribution on the short message service X. He accused the radical-Islamic Hisbollah to “heat the situation”. The Israeli army will tell the residents “in the near future” to which places they could return.
Waiting for the return
Since the early morning, residents in places in the south have gathered near the Israeli border, as the State Agency NNA reported. On social media, photos and videos took the round of residents with yellow flags of the Hezbollah. In a video, a group of residents came to a standstill in front of an Israeli tank, others gathered on country roads before blockages from the Israeli army. Sometimes traffic jams came.
Actually, the fronts between the Hisbollah, Israel and the Lebanese state should have been clarified until today. However, unlike agreed, the Israeli troops are still stationed in the south of Lebanon. According to the latest Israeli information, the deduction will be delayed. Lebanon had not yet fully implemented its part of the agreement, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu justified the decision. The new US government also spoke out for an extension.
It was planned for the Hisbollah to withdraw behind the Litani river, about 30 kilometers north of the Israeli-Libanese border. The Lebanese army was supposed to prevent the proiran militia from returning there. The army has moved to several locations, but has not yet been able to control the entire area. The Hisbollah is still moving there. The Lebanese army, in turn, blamed Israel for delays in its commitment in the south of the country. No Lebanese soldiers were able to send them into the area because Israel has not yet deducted troops.
The disarmament of the Hisbollah supporting by Iran was another part of the agreement. The weapons are not yet under state control. So far, observers have not assumed that the Hisbollah will give up its arms arsenal promptly.
According to eyewitnesses, the Israeli army tried to keep residents away from places as possible in which the troops are still stationed. The army said that they will be informed about places for a safe return to the south. “Until then we ask you to wait.”
Both in Lebanon and northern Israel, there is further uncertainty among the residents. So far, many of them have not returned to their homework because they have no confidence in permanent peace.
